Over Curacao

The Dutch Caribbean island of Curacao is located near Venezuela and is best known for its typical architecture in cheerful pastel shades. The capital, Willemstad, is therefore an iconic sight and is on the list of UNESCO World Heritage. But, the island has much more to offer, a lively culture, beautiful beaches and bays and it is pleasantly warm all year round.

Climate

Curacao has a tropical climate with pleasant, cooling northeast trade winds. This means lots of sun and little rain. The average annual temperature is 27.5 °C. The sea temperature is very warm with an average of 26.8 °C.

Language

Curaçao has three official languages, namely: Papiamentu, Dutch and English. The local language, which is spoken most by many Curaçaoans, is Papiamentu. The language originated in times of slavery, through the coming together of people with different origins. This is how a mixture of African languages, Spanish, Dutch, French, Portuguese, English and Arawak came into being.

currency

The currency used in Curacao is the Antillean Guilder (ANG), also known as Florin. The exchange rate is linked to the US dollar: $1 dollar is approximately equal to ANG 1.80 guilders. You can pay with US dollars everywhere in Curacao, and credit cards are also accepted in most places.
